First claim the item(s), by clicking on "Claim" then describe your item(s) providing as much detail as possible in the text box provided. If the item is one that has some "control feature", do well to mention some of them. Control features are features that only the owner of the item can know and that the finder can see and verify. For instance, last 6 digits of mobile phone IMEI. Please note that the more information you give, the easier it is for the finder to determine whether you are the rightful owner. Hence, your description will determine whether you will recover your item faster or not even after finding it on our platform.

Please find below some suggestions per type of item that will help you to give the right information to the finder:

Be extensive! If the finder is not sure yet, you will be asked to provide more information, but if you are unable to claim it after 5 trials, we will assume the item not to be yours. Your claim will get to the finder immediately, but it can take 1 to 3 working days before you receive an answer from the finder. Please note that many organisations are only opened during office hours and closed at weekends.

The finder will receive an email and push notification about your claim immediately you submit your claim. In most cases, the finder will respond to the alert within 24 hours. However, it may tarry a little longer before you receive a response, depending on when the finder sees your alert.

Found by an organisation:
Please note that some organisations/businesses are closed on weekends or outside office hours, and will not respond immediately. However, if you did not received a response after 3 working days, please submit your claims again.

Found by an honest individual:
It is possible that your item has been found by an honest finder, and he/she has registered the item online with the aim of finding the rightful owner. However, if the finder did not respond to you after few days, please submit your claims again.

There are a few things you can do:

  • Modify your search. You can search by item category, description, location or name of the organisation where you might have lost your item. We are constantly improving the search engine algorithm to make it easier for you to find your lost property. You can change the language setting of the website and try searching by item description in other languages you understand (e.g. French, German, Dutch, English, Portuguese, Spanish, etc.).
  • Keep repeating your search for a number of days. The finder (honest individual or organisations) may not register the found item(s) just immediately. So, always redo your search after some couple of days.
  • If you loss the item(s) at an organisation or event centre that does not use Finder and Owner yet, send an alert to the organization asking them to signup for Finder and Owner. Also inform them about your loss! You can alert them via their email, contact form on their website, phone number, social media, etc.

Finder and Owner is aimed at uniting as many found items as possible with their rightful owner. Fortunately, we are having huge success in achieving the above aim. Howbeit, some of the owners of the found items are not traced. Therefore, there are some items on our system that remain unclaimed.

We are committed to contributing to a more sustainable development of our society. This includes the reuse and recycling of item(s) and the reduction of waste. As such, we encourage all organizations that use Lost and Found to give the found items a second life by donating them to charity or by having the items recycled where possible, in cases where the rightful owner of an item is never show up after 3 months.

Finder and Owner is simply the 'Search Box' of Lost & Found. When your item got missing and an honest individual or organisation founds it, and report it on our platform, you can recover it. It is easy! If the organisation or honest individual who finds the item register it in our system, you got 99% chance of recovering the item.

All one need do is to first register the item(s) in our system, match the item, pay a little token only if you are the owner of an item you found on our platform, and then schedule a pick up with finder or owner. Click here to read full details.

Are you looking for your lost item on our website? It is possible that the image of the item was not submitted on our website by the finder. Most a times, this is a deliberate choice of the organization or private finder.

To prevent fraud, some organizations or private finders choose not to share a photo. This may mean that the found item does not have any specific control characteristics. If a photo of the item would then be placed, in theory anyone could claim the item unjustly.

If you are unsure that the found item is yours, we advise you to place a claim on it so that the organization or private finder can match your description with the item(s) he/she found.

If you are unsure whether the item you see on our system is yours, go ahead and click on "Claim this Item" button and describe your item with characteristics that only you may know, providing as much details as possible. The finder of the item(s) will verify if your information corresponds with the item(s) he/she found. You will then receive an e-mail informing you whether or not you are the owner, or whether you need to provide more information. Feel free to place a claim on all items you suspect to be yours.

Do note that, it generally takes 1 to 3 working days to receive an answer from the finder. In case where you do not received reply after 3 working days, you may proceed to submit your claim again.

If your lost mobile phone or telephone is registered as found (or if you have a strong suspicion of it), we recommend you to mention the IMEI number of the lost phone straightaway when submitting your claim.

Furthermore, often times the IMEI number is requested during the verification process. It is therefore useful to know where you can find or retrieve it. You can find the IMEI number of your phone in different ways, namely:

  • on the purchase receipt
  • on the insurance policy
  • on the original packaging

You can also retrieve the IMEI number from your telecom provider. An IMEI number consists of 15 digits. If you can't find the IMEI number, check the device manual or go to the manufacturer's website.
Please note that you can claim your mobile device without providing the IMEI number. Just ensure you are able to convince the finder that the device he/she found belong to you.
